I grew up watching my mom sew. Buying an old sailboat in 2020 and becoming a live-aboard made me realize there were a lot of canvas coverings on it, many in need of repair!
So I bought a semi-industrial sewing machine and started teaching myself through in-person classes, help from friends, online tutorials, and (of course) phone calls to mom. Making tote bags from old sails that friends gave me was one of the first things I learned.
I also became a full time student from 2021-23 and completed the Marine Technologies Program at Skagit Valley College, earning two ABYC certifications (electrical and diesel) as well as becoming a NMEA 2000 installer.
The focus, however, is helping people with their canvas projects on boats. There are no grand plans to become a major power-house. I am happy working on bespoke projects and keeping things small and customers happy. I currently work out of the sail loft at Northwest Rigging here in Anacortes – gateway to the San Juan Islands. To learn more about my products, please see the Services Page. I also sometimes have things for sale in my Etsy shop.
When I am not sewing, I am hiking, paddling, sailing, or trail running. I am not on conventional social media (neither is Sew Sew Your Boat), but for more about my story and personal adventures, and other lines of work, I do have an old-school blog: www.stumblingslowlyforward.com
