It’s always nice to do a different kind of project. Especially if unicorns are involved. I have been stressing away on a vinyl window replacement project – the material is really expensive and one mistake can be costly. Fortunately, I had a distraction.

Last week, Sage – who is one of the riggers at Northwest Rigging and has two young kids at home,  asked me if I could make a fabric lining for a wicker toy basket.

It was a fun project – my first time just using fabric to pattern something and not trying to template everything and measure every angle up front. In many ways it was just another covering, but inverted. It was also a little different because of the slightly conical shape inside.

I didn’t have quite enough cotton twill canvas to go all around the basket, but I had some fun unicorn fabric for the bottom and used a bit of it to fill in the gap on the side. Maybe Sage’s kids will think about it being a path for the unicorns?

I used some fun zig-zag stitches to make a rolled hem with a draw-string. Sage sent me the picture below some happy toys at home in the basket.
